Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or
Two years of mechanical related experience in the transportation or heavy equipment industry
Valid Driver’s License

The primary function of this position includes, but is not limited to, performing the maintenance, service, and related repairs of on-highway and off-highway engines.
Qualifications and/or Experience:
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or
Two years of mechanical related experience in the transportation or heavy equipment industry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both oral and written.
General knowledge and proficient use of a computer and computer programs is required for completion of shop work orders and record keeping.
Ability to interact effectively, and courteously with drivers and other employees
Ability to work as a part of a team.
Ability to read and understand repair manuals.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing annual procedures.
Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics, making adjustments, valve adjustments, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, using a torch and welding or other fabrication and all other duties as assigned.
Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and other means of testing.
Maintains vehicle records by creating work order service and repairs tickets.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, following lock out tag out procedures and additional safety measures.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Works under limited supervision
Service Manager Position
Developing customer relationships through the successful management of products and service.
Maintaining computerized customer profile information.
Communicating with customers (in person, by phone) to discuss their needs and relaying those to the technicians.
Entering the details of repair jobs on the company’s management software
Developing cost estimates - work with parts manager to organize needed parts and technicians to estimate the time needed for repairs. Sending and discussing estimates with customers.
Contacting customers in the case of additional work to relay the details and extra costs.
Releasing repaired equipment to the customers and explaining the work done and costs accrued to the customers to ensure their satisfaction and repeat business.
